What does the calculator determine?
A welder qualification test qualifies far more than the exact conditions welded — every essential variable carries its own range of qualification. The calculator applies the coverage tables of ISO 9606 to your test piece and produces the same range table an examining body records on the certificate.

A test piece welded at s ≥ 12 mm without backing covers unlimited thickness and nearly all backing variants. A thin plate in PA covers almost nothing.

Frequently asked questions
For each essential variable of the qualification test — welding process, product type, weld type, filler material, thickness, pipe diameter, welding position and weld details — the standard defines what the welder may weld in production. The certificate records both the test conditions and these ranges.
Both. EN ISO 9606-1:2017 (the edition most certificates in circulation are issued to) is the default, and the consolidated ISO 9606 edition that replaces parts -1 to -5 is available as a switch, so you can compare the resulting ranges.
Not by itself. A butt weld qualification covers fillet welds only through a supplementary fillet weld test or a combined test piece — and under the 2017 edition the supplementary test qualifies positions PA and PB only. The calculator applies exactly these rules.
